Pune: Young Entrepreneur Punit Balan Takes Initiative of Preserving Historical Monuments of City
Agreement Signs Between Indrani Balan Foundation and State Archaeology Department
Pune: Punit Balan, a young entrepreneur known for his active involvement in social work, has taken a significant step in preserving Pune district’s historical heritage. Through the Indrani Balan Foundation, Punit Balan has committed to the cleaning and maintenance of several key historical monuments in the city. An official agreement in this regard was recently signed between the Indrani Balan Foundation and the State Archaeology Department.
The monuments whose maintenance and cleanliness responsibility are taken by the Indrani Balan Foundation include the Chhatrapati Rajaram Maharaj Samadhi at Sinhagad Fort, the Samadhi site of Swarajyarakshak Chhatrapati Sambhaji Maharaj at Vadhu Budruk, the birthplace of Martyr Shivram Hari Rajguru at Rajguru Nagar, and the Mahadev Mandir at Tulapur.
Each year, thousands of people visit these state-protected sites, with numbers surging during public holidays. Recognising the deep sense of pride and respect people have for these sites, Punit Balan proactively offered to oversee their daily upkeep and maintenance. His proposal was immediately approved by Vilas Wahane, Assistant Director of the State Archaeology Department.
To ensure the effective management of these sites, the Indrani Balan Foundation will appoint seven security guards across the memorials as part of the Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. Additionally, the foundation will be responsible for the daily cleaning, maintenance, and regular inspection of the surrounding areas of these historic sites.
Commenting on the initiative, Dr. Vilas Wahane praised Punit Balan’s efforts, stating, “We appreciate and welcome the initiative taken by Punit Balan, a Shivpremi and young entrepreneur, in accepting the responsibility of maintaining four protected monuments under the CSR scheme on behalf of the Indrani Balan Foundation. The participation of individuals in the upkeep of state-protected monuments is commendable. This initiative will greatly contribute to preserving the cleanliness and integrity of these historical sites. We encourage others to follow this example and help preserve our heritage.”
Punit Balan himself expressed the importance of this project, saying, “Maharashtra is rich with the legacy of great leaders whose monuments continue to inspire future generations. Many of these significant sites are located in and around Pune city, and it is crucial to maintain them properly. In keeping with the spirit of preserving the sanctity of these monuments, we have voluntarily taken on the responsibility for their safety and cleanliness through the CSR initiative.”
