Pune: Cement concrete mixture spilled on Sinhagad Road causing accidents
Pune: Many two-wheelers skidded on the road from Dhayari Phata to Lagad Mala on Sinhagad Road due to the cement concrete mixture spilled from RMC mixture tankers on Saturday. One bike rider was injured in the incident.
This is a recurring issue on Sinhagad Road and other roads in the city. Earlier, civic officials had penalised owners of such RMC mixture plants while civic workers had cleared the mess created by spilled concrete mixture. The civic body announced that a couple of sanitary workers would be deployed at the spot but in the absence of any, concrete continued to spill and two-wheelers skidded. It has become a big risk for commuters on the road.
Local residents blamed collusion between civic officials and plant owners. They demanded removal of these plants immediately.
Sandip Khalate, Assistant Municipal Commissioner, Sinhagad Road Ward Office, said, “Concrete is spilling on Sinhagad Road from RMC mixture tankers. We will report the matter to the Building Department to take action in this regard. We will penalise the plants which are responsible for this.”
API Rajkumar Barde, Sinhagad Traffic Division, said, “We will impose fine on RMC mixture tankers and dumpers that transport more material than their capacity as per the RTO rules.”
Mahesh Pokale, Ward Head, Khadakwasla Assembly Segment, Shiv Sena (UBT), said, “Spilled concrete mixture on the road has made unintended speed breakers at various places. The civic body should immediately clean such spots. I have seen many two-wheeler riders meeting with accidents due to this. Plant owners concerned should be warned over the issue. If they fail to comply, then strict action should be taken against them.”
