Pune: Due to the continuous rainfall in Pune city for the last two days, various societies and other low-lying areas got inundated. Various places are submerged under the water. This has caused great devastation to people’s lives. However, since this morning, rain has taken a break in the city, giving some respite to people.

The water flow from the Khadakwasla dam has also been reduced, because of which the flood situation is under control in Pune city. Further, Sinhagad Road and Ekta Nagar areas, which were submerged under water yesterday, are normal today; the flow of water has been reduced and the accumulated water has receded in many areas.

Meanwhile, the Chief Minister of the state, Eknath Shinde, took complete information from the district administration and municipal administration about the situation that arose yesterday. CM Eknath Shinde has ordered the immediate removal of the mud and garbage from the affected areas of Ekta Nagar, Patil Estate, and Sinhagad Road.

In the situation of less manpower, CM Shinde also ordered the district administration to outsource and called workers from other areas to clear the mud and waste in the areas. After taking a review of the situation, CM Shinde went to Delhi for the proposed meeting of NITI Aayog.

In further order to the district administration regarding the cleanliness drive in the affected areas of Pune, CM Shinde ordered a cleanliness campaign on a war footing with the help of the municipal corporation and private cleaning companies to remove the mud, sludge, and waste from these houses. The Chief Minister has instructed the District Collectors to immediately conduct an investigation on the damages to the house and agriculture in the area and submit a detailed report about it.

On the appeal of CM Shinde, two private cleaning companies, Sumit Enterprises and BVG, have decided to supply 500 and 100 cleaning workers, respectively, for this initiative. Further, all the concerned departments of the PCMC have been ordered to spray insecticides to prevent the spread of disease due to waterlogging in the area.

The discharge of water has been reduced at Khadakwasla Dam. Now only 13000 cusec of water is being released from Khadakwasla Dam. This decision was taken by the administration as rain stopped in the Khadakwasla dam area.
