Pune: Fake IAS Officer Arrested by Loni Kalbhor Police for Extortion and Death Threats
Pune: In a dramatic turn of events, Loni Kalbhor Police have arrested a woman who impersonated herself as an IAS officer and used her false identity to extort money and issue death threats. The accused, identified as Renuka Ishwar Karanure (32), a resident of Siddhivinayak Society in Wadki, was apprehended following a complaint lodged by a 31-year-old woman from the same locality.
The complainant, who runs a home-based business, revealed that she had initially borrowed Rs 60,000 from Karanure at an interest rate of 5% per month. Over time, this amount increased to Rs. 2,68,000. Despite having paid a staggering total of Rs 3,48,650 in interest at a rate of 10%, Karanure continued to demand more money from the plaintiff. The accused were consistently sending threatening messages, warning of dire consequences if her demands were not met.
The complainant disclosed unsettling information about Karanure, stating that Karanure had imposed a daily penalty of Rs 200 for late interest payments. In a particularly distressing incident, Karanure forcefully took the complainant’s husband’s car and only returned it after receiving Rs 2,50,000. The complainant and her husband were subjected to severe harassment and death threats.
Further, on July 25, Renuka visited the plaintiff’s house and demanded the interest money. She threatened the plaintiff, saying, “If you don’t pay the interest, remember that I am an IAS. I will manipulate the entire system and manage everyone with my financial power. Your husband is a truck driver; he could get into an accident and be eliminated forever.” Terrified by these threats, the plaintiff immediately went to the police.
Police investigations unveiled shocking details about Karanure’s fraudulent activities. Not only did she masquerade as an IAS officer, but she also used the Indian Emblem as her WhatsApp display picture to bolster her false claims. This deceit enabled her to intimidate and extort several individuals.
Acting swiftly on the complaint, Loni Kalbhor Police registered a case and arrested Renuka Karanure. The police are now investigating the extent of her fraudulent activities and the number of victims involved. PSI Amol Ghodke is conducting further investigation into the case.
