Pune: Heavy vehicles have been banned at 30 chowks and other places in the city from August 5 to 12. This is likely to provide some relief from traffic issues in the city.

The Pune City Traffic Police issued a notification on Sunday (August 4), under which heavy vehicles have been banned to enter 30 chowks and other spots in the city from 9 am to 10 pm till August 12. This is claimed to be an important step towards solving serious traffic issues in the city.

Measures to solve traffic issues

The decision has been made in the backdrop of worsening condition of roads due to heavy rainfall. Potholes and a shortfall in repairing them has led to traffic congestion leading to serious traffic issues.

Traffic management

Though the ban applies to heavy vehicles, emergency services have been exempted from it. Heavy vehicles such as trucks, dumpers, concrete mixers and others have been banned from 9 am till 10 pm at 30 major chowks and other places.
