Pune: Why can’t the flyover at Rajaram Bridge Chowk be thrown open to traffic?
Pune: The flyover at Rajaram Bridge Chowk is ready for use. However, BJP leaders are not getting time to inaugurate it. Therefore, it cannot be thrown open to the public. It is likely to be inaugurated on August 16.
Meanwhile, commuters continue to suffer congestion in the area. A flyover is being built on Sinhagad Road from 2021. The flyover at Rajaram Bridge Chowk is a part of this flyover, which was built in July this year. However, it could not be tarred during rains. Therefore, it could not be inaugurated.
Later, the tarring of the flyover was delayed on the pretexts that the tar plant was closed and the material for the work was wet. After about two weeks, the flyover was surfaced on Saturday (August 10). Civic officials said that traffic could be allowed to ply on the flyover within two days.
Remaining tasks such as painting, drawing white stripes, painting the median and installing signages were done on August 12. Now, it can be used. DyCM Devendra Fadnavis was scheduled to inaugurate it. But he kept busy last week.
Union Minister Murlidhar Mohol will be on a visit to Pune on August 16. He could also inaugurate the flyover. However, his schedule has not been fixed. Meanwhile, the issue has been politicised. Civic officials refused to comment on the delay.
