Pune: Puneites on Tuesday (August 27) reacted to the collapse of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue installed at Rajkot Fort in Sindhudurg. The NCP (SP) condemned the government by bathing a bust of Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj with milk and apologising to the king.

The novel agitation was staged in front of Rashtravadi Congress Bhavan in Shivajinagar under the leadership of NCP (SP) City Unit President Prashant Jagtap. Then a Dahi-Handi, symbolising corruption, despotism, suppression and hatred, was broken to protest against the government. Party workers Kishor Kamble, Swati Pokale, Kaka Chavan, Rohan Paigude, Vikram Jadhav, Ratnaprabha Jagtap, Fahim Shaikh, Ramiz Sayyad, Kanav Chavan, Sanjay Gade and Nitin Jadhav were present.

Prashant Jagtap said, “The statue was hurriedly installed at Rajkot Fort in Sindhudurg eyeing the Lok Sabha elections. It was unveiled by PM Narendra Modi in a grand function. However, the statue collapsed on Tuesday. It not only exposed the sub-standard work but also was an insult to Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj. The government is responsible for this.”
