Plan to bring President’s Rule in Maharashtra: Prithviraj Chavan
Mumbai: All political parties are gearing up for the State Assembly elections. It was said that the polls might take place in December. However, a former Chief Minister has claimed that the Centre is planning to bring President’s Rule in the State. He was speaking to a Marathi news channel on Friday (August 30).
Former CM and senior Congress leader Prithviraj Chavan has claimed that there are moves to implement President’s Rule. He said, “It is a gloomy situation in Maharashtra. The Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj statue collapse and the Badlapur incident have raised a question about the style of functioning of the government. To wriggle out of the situation, President’s Rule will be announced.”
Chavan said, “The people are angry after the statue collapse and the Badlapur sexual abuse of minor girls. Outrage is being expressed across the State. No statue at a public place crashed in the State in the past 100 years. The episode is being discussed across the world. Central agencies conducted a survey and found that the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) would get around 180 seats in the forthcoming state elections. Therefore, President’s Rule will be brought. Later, when the atmosphere calms down, elections may be held.”
The term of the current State Assembly will end on November 26. Haryana State Assembly term will end on November 3, where the elections will be held. Jharkhand Assembly term ends on January 4, 2025. Diwali will be celebrated between October 29 and November 3. It was said that since elections could not be held during the festival season, they could be organised before or after Diwali. However, Chavan’s claim has triggered discussions.
