Pune: Gangster’s son Vanraj Andekar brutally killed over family dispute; son-in-law hatches conspiracy to carry out killing (Videos)
Pune: Former NCP corporator Vanraj Andekar was killed in a shooting and a sickle attack on Sunday night. He was the son of Bandu Andekar, the leader of the notorious Andekar gang.
The police investigation revealed that the murder was a result of a family dispute. The victim’s son-in-law hatched a conspiracy to retain his dominance.
The accused has been identified as Ganesh Komkar, the son-in-law of the victim. He was given a shop in Nana Peth. The civic body demolished it in an anti-encroachment action. This started the dispute in the family. Ganesh Komkar had the blessings of the Andekar family and formed his own gang. Komkar had a quarrel with one of the relatives of Andekar, in which Komkar was beaten up. Komkar was upset with it. The Komkars recently lodged a complaint at the Samarth Police station that they had a life threat from the Andekars.
This is the background behind the Vanraj Andekar murder. Komkar was earlier involved in an acid attack on the then Shiv Sena City Unit President Rambhau Parekh. Vanraj Andekar had an inkling that he could be attacked. Therefore, he used to hang around with his gang members.
On Sunday, he had a function at home. Therefore, his gang members were not accompanying him. At around 8.30 pm, he went to his office, along with a relative, at Ashok Chowk near Doke Talim. A gang of 10-12 assailants arrived on 5-6 two-wheelers. One of them fired five rounds of bullets at Vanraj Andekar. Then some of them attacked him with a sickle. As he collapsed, the gang vanished within a minute. Vanraj Andekar was immediately shifted to the KEM Hospital by some people. However, he was declared dead before admission.
Joint CP Ranjan Kumar Sharma, Addl CP Pravinkumar Patil and other senior officials rushed to the spot after learning about the incident. Three persons were arrested.
Varnraj Andekar was the son of Andekar gang leader Bandu Andekar. He was elected on the NCP ticket to the civic body in 2017. Earlier, his mother Rajeshree Andekar was elected as a corporator in 2007 and 2012.
Son-in-law missed the target
Ganesh Komkar fired five rounds of bullet at his father-in-law. But it was revealed in the post-mortem that he did not have a bullet injury. He was killed in the sickle attack.
