NC to murder: Sequence of events leading to Vanraj Andekar’s murder
Pune: The police lodge a non-cognizable offence (NC) in a minor dispute and find a temporary way out. The purpose behind lodging NCs and taking preventive action is to avoid future serious crimes. Many senior police officers educate their colleagues on this. Vanraj Andekar’s murder preceded one such NC.
This was revealed when notorious gangster and Vanraj’s father Suryakant alias Bandu Andekar lodged a complaint at the Samarth Police Station. The Anti-Encroachment Department of the Pune Municipal Corporation (PMC) acted against Bandu Andekar’s daughter Sanjivani Jayant Komkar and son-in-law Jayant Laxman Komkar’s shop – Akshata-Ankita General Store in Nana Peth. Sanjivani and Jayant Komkar lodged a complaint at the Samarth Police Station the next day alleging stoning of their shop.
The police summoned Akash Suresh Pardeshi to the police station. Vanraj, his nephew Shivam Udaykant Andekar and Adv Manoj Mane visited the police station, along with Pardeshi.
Sanjivani and her husband Jayant Komkar beat up Pardeshi on the premises of the police station.
Shivam Andekar mediated in the fight. Pardeshi lodged a complaint on the instruction of Vanraj. The police filed an NC. Sanjivani Komkar got upset over this and threatened Vanraj saying, “You have interfered in our dispute. We will kill you. You are snatching away our livelihood by asking the civic body to demolish it. I will tell my men to kill you.”
Later, Vanraj and his nephew Shivam were standing at the chowk at around 9 pm when some gangsters arrived on two-wheelers and attacked Vanraj. Shivam recognised Pawan Kartal when he removed his face mask.
He fired at Shivam. However, Shivam ducked and saved himself. Pawan then fired at Vanraj. However, he missed the shot. Vanraj and Shivam started running away.
Sanjivani and Jayant Komkar were watching this from the balcony of their home nearby and provoked the gang to kill them. Then Pawan swung a koyta in the air and attacked the duo. Shivam escaped but Vanraj fell down. Pawan and Samir Kale attacked him with sickles and killed him.
Bandu Andekar lodged the complaint against 15 people for the murder. Vanraj did not take precaution even after he was threatened by his sister and her husband. Thus, he lost his life.
