Pune: Liquor ban in Pune city, district during Ganeshotsav
Pune: Sale of liquor has been banned during the Ganpati Festival from September 7 to September 17 in the city and the district. The ban will be effective in the heart of the city, including the areas within the limits of Faraskhana, Vishrambaug and Khadak Police Stations, from September 7 till the immersion procession lasts on September 18.
An order, in this regard, was issued by District Collector Dr Suhas Diwase on Friday (September 6). An updated order was issued on Friday evening to maintain law and order during the Ganpati Festival. According to the directive, sale of alcohol has been banned from Ganesh Chaturthi (September 7) till the immersion day on September 17. The ban will be effective in the city on September 17 and 18 till the immersion procession lasts.
Police Commissioner Amitesh Kumar sent a proposal to the District Collector to keep liquor shops closed within the jurisdictions of Faraskhana, Vishrambaug and Khadak Police Stations during the 10-day festival to curb any untoward incident.
Later, District Collector Dr Diwase banned liquor sale within the limits of Faraskhana, Vishrambaug and Khadak Police Stations from September 7 to 18. Moreover, wherever the immersion takes place on the 5th and the 7th days, ban will be effective in those areas too.
