Pune: Dehydration, Overheat, and Drumstick Injuries Mar Pune’s Ganesh Visarjan Procession: Over 120 Devotees Receive Medical Aid

Today, in Pune’s Ganesh Visarjan Procession, a huge crowd of devotees had gathered to have the final glimpse of Lord Ganesh. However, in this immersion procession, many people, especially women, suffered from dehydration and became dizzy due to the intense heat and crowding in the afternoon.
Therefore, in the first four hours, a total of 122 people received emergency medical aid. Further, in some of the incidents, a few people were injured after a drumstick was hit to them while playing the Dhol. As per the information, 5 to 6 people were injured in it and are undergoing treatment.
Ambulances have been made available at Belbaug Chowk, Alka Talkies Chowk, SP College Chowk, and Puram Chowk on behalf of the Pune Police Vighnaharta Nyas Emergency Medical Aid Team during the Ganesh Visarjan procession. Apart from this, emergency medical aid centres have been set up at Gokhale Hall on Lakshmi Road, near Sweet Home on Kumthekar Road, near Narayan Peth Police Chowki, and SP College Chowk on Tilak Road.
The people in Pune have special attraction for the immersion processions of Manache Ganpati. Young and old people throng to see these processions and to have darshan of Ganpati.
As the sky was clear today, the heat of the sun had increased in the afternoon. Further, lots of people thronged for the darshan of Lord Ganesh. Therefore, many people suffered from dehydration due to standing in the hot sun for the darshan of Kasba Ganpati and other Manche Ganpatis. They started feeling dizzy. Some women collapsed on the road. They were treated at emergency medical centres.
Dr. Milind Bhoi, Trustee of Vighnaharta Nyas, said that 122 devotees were treated in the first four hours due to heatstroke. Further five to six individuals were injured due to drumstick injuries.
