Pune: Immersion procession concludes peacefully after 28 hours, Commissioner of Police thanks all

Pune: Pune’s glorious Ganesh immersion procession ended peacefully and enthusiastically. No untoward incident was reported during the procession which lasted for 28 hours. This was revealed by Commissioner of Police (CP) Amitesh Kumar on Wednesday.

The procession started after performing ‘Aarti’ of Kasba Ganpati at 10.30 am on Tuesday. It continued till 3 pm on Wednesday. CP Amitesh Kumar interacted with the media after the conclusion of the procession. Joint CP Ranjan Kumar Sharma, DCP Sandeep Singh Gill and other police officers were present.

CP Kumar said, “The immersion procession concluded peacefully and enthusiastically. I thank all Ganesh mandal workers on behalf of the Pune City Police. They cooperated with the police and coordinated well to complete the procession in a cordial atmosphere. Though a huge crowd of Ganesh Bhakts was present in the city, they also cooperated with the police.”

Action against mandals using laser lights

The CP said, “Laser light was totally banned during the procession. It was not used on the main procession route. Wherever it was used, the police stopped its use. It is still not known how many mandals used laser lights. We will review the issue and act against such mandals.”

Mandals causing noise pollution to face action

Kumar said, “We have measured decibel levels and will act against mandals which have violated the norms.”

Besides security, challenge of police personnel’s health, facilities for them

Kumar said, “Security needs to be strengthened during the immersion procession as huge crowds gather in the city. Thousands of police personnel and officers are deployed. Therefore, their health is as important as a peaceful procession. It is to be ensured that they are not inconvenienced in any way. Security needs to be planned considering all these factors.”
