Pune: Wakad Police Apprehend Two Accused in Phoenix Mall Firing Incident

Pune : On the resentment of not getting a job at Phoenix Mall, a habitual offender opened gunfire at the mall to create terror. In this regard, the Wakad Police have apprehended two accused and unearthed the reason behind the firing.

The prime accused has been identified as Akshay alias Bala Lahu Shinde (age 30, a resident of Radhakrishna Colony, Wakad). The police also detained Ranjit Nathuram Salgar (age 24, a resident of Masur, Taluka Karad, District Satara) for aiding the accused to flee.

As per the police information, Wakad police received information about the firing at Phoenix Mall on September 17, around 6 p.m. Upon closer scrutiny of CCTV footage of the incident, police found that the accused, Bala Shinde, was behind the act.

Accordingly, police started a search operation for Shinde and detained him from the underpass service road in front of Hotel Tip Top by setting a trap. Further, the Crime Branch Unit 4 also apprehended Ranjit Salgar, the driver of the car through which the accused attempted to flee, from Bhumkar Chowk, Wakad.

In the subsequent police interrogation, Shinde said that he had been earlier told that he would get a job at Phoenix Mall. But, as he did not get the job as promised, he did firing at the mall to create terror on Tuesday.

Police informed that Akshay Shinde is an on-record criminal and have two complaints of forced robbery and fighting registered against him at Wakad police station.

This action was taken by the team of Senior Police Inspector of Wakad Police Station Nivrutti Kolhatkar, Senior Police Inspector of Crime Branch Unit 4 Sandeep Sawant, Assistant Police Inspector Padma Bhushan Gaikwad, Police Sub-Inspectors Sachin Chavan, Anirudh Savarde, Salunkhe, Bibhishan Kanherkar, Rajendra Kale, Police Ammaldar Vandu Gire, Sandeep Gawari, Swapnil Khetle, Pramod Kadam, Atish Jadhav, Atik Sheikh, Prashant Gilbile, Santosh Mahajan, Ramchandra Talpe, Ajay Phalle, Saudagar Lamture, Bhaskar Bharti, Kotenya Kharade, Ramesh Khedkar, Dnyandev Zende, Sagar Kotwal, Mangesh Lokhande, as well as Police Ammaldar of Crime Branch Unit 4 Nadaf, Munde, Shete, Gawande, Gutte and Jaibhai.

In this operation, the assistance and guidance of Commissioner of Police Vinoy Kumar Choubey, Joint Commissioner of Police Dr. Shashikant Mahavarkar, Additional Commissioner of Police Vasant Pardeshi, Deputy Commissioner of Police Sandeep Doifode, Deputy Commissioner of Police Vishal Gaikwad, Assistant Commissioner of Police Dr. Vishal Hire, and Sunil Kurade proved useful.
