Pune: Woman Committed Suicide Following Daily Harassment by In-Laws in Yerawada

A disturbing incident has come to light from Yerawada. A married woman has ended her life by committing suicide after frustrating the continuous harassment by her husband and in-laws.
The deceased woman has been identified as Gauri Manoj Gaikwad (age 36, a resident of Ahilya Society, Ambedkar Chowk, Yerawada). Ujwala Ramesh Adagale (age 53, a resident of Kamela Kondhwa) has lodged a complaint with Yerawada police in this matter.
Accordingly, police have registered a case against the husband of the deceased woman, Manoj Suresh Gaikwad (age 37), mother-in-law Manda Suresh Gaikwad (age 56), sister-in-law Rekha Kamble (age 45), and brother-in-law Akash Suresh Gaikwad (age 26), all residents of Ahilya Society, Yerawada.
Police informed that the harassment had been going on since 2009 until Gauri Gaikwad committed suicide on September 20, 2024.
According to the information given by the police, Gauri Gaikwad, the daughter of the plaintiff, was being abused by her husband and in-laws from time to time in the house over trivial reasons. The plaintiff complained that her daughter was abused by her in-laws over her cooking. Further, she was physically and mentally tortured by asking her to go to her parents’ house.
The plaintiff also accused her daughter’s in-laws, saying they were continuously abusing and assaulting her. Further, they also attempted to kill her by poisoning her food and threatened to kill her. Finally, Gauri committed suicide on September 20 after being tired of this daily harassment.
Assistant Police Inspector Ahire is investigating further into the case.
