Pune: Local Crime Branch Arrests Notorious Daylight Robbers, Goods Worth Rs 15 Lakh Seized
Pune: The Local Crime Branch and Narayangaon Police have arrested a gang of burglars responsible for daylight robberies across Pune district. Police have seized goods worth Rs 15 lakh, including 19 tola of gold jewellery, a two-wheeler, and mobile phones from the suspects.
The arrested individuals have been identified as Ganesh Govardhan Kale (24) and Milind Ishwar Bhosale (25). Superintendent of Police Pankaj Deshmukh addressed a press conference where he revealed that the two men, along with a minor accomplice, had confessed to the crimes. Police Inspectors Avinash Shilimkar and Rajendra Gavali were also present during the briefing.
According to the police, Milind Bhosale is a repeat offender with 16 cases of housebreaking, extortion, and theft registered against him in Beed and rural areas of Pune. In July 2023, Bhosale was involved in a robbery where he fired a pistol in the Shirur area. He had been released on bail in 2024.
Robberies were on the rise in various parts of the district, and the police were facing challenges in their investigation due to the absence of CCTV footage. However, a breakthrough came when Local Crime Branch officers, including Deepak Sable, Sandeep Vare, and Akshay Navale, spotted the suspects on a bike while patrolling on the Kalyan-Nagar Highway. The police team reviewed highway CCTV footage, tracking the suspects to the city’s industrial area. A trap was set, and both Kale and Bhosale were apprehended.
The police investigation revealed that the duo, along with their minor accomplice, had been involved in multiple house robberies. The police have so far linked the suspects to 17 cases of burglary, including two each in Narayangaon, Vadgaon Nimbalkar, Baramati City, Walchand Nagar, and Manchar, and one each in Malegaon, Khed, Shirur, Alephata, Yavat, Supa, and Uruli Kanchan.
In total, the police recovered 19 tola of gold jewellery, the two-wheeler used in the crimes, four mobile phones, and other items worth Rs 15 lakh from a jeweller where the stolen goods were sold.
The accused had kept all this stolen jewellery to the local jeweller as collateral, saying that this jewellery is of their parents, and they need money for their treatment. Accordingly, police seized goods worth Rs 15 lakh, including 19 tola of gold jewellery, a two-wheeler, and mobile phones from the jeweller.
