Adani Group will have to do what the government says, failing which we will cancel Dharavi Redevelopment contract: Devendra Fadnavis
Mumbai: The Dharavi Redevelopment Project’s (DRP) contract has been awarded to Adani Group. A controversy has arisen over alleged changes to the rehabilitation and development rules. Opposition parties are levelling allegations.
Replying to a question over alleged changes made to the Development Control Regulations (DCR), Deputy Chief Minister Devendra Fadnavis said, “Adani Group will have to follow the State Government’s instructions, failing which we will cancel the contract.”
But it is said that the Municipal Commissioner has the right to change the DCR. But the CEO of the Dharavi project has made such changes. The question was asked to Fadnavis at the India Today Conclave.
Reply by DyCM Fadnavis
Fadnavis said, “The DCR decided by Uddhav Thackeray is in the DRP. The right to change the DCR is given to the officer of the rank of the Principal Secretary. An officer equal to the Municipal Commissioner’s rank has no power to change the DCR.
“There are 10 authorities in the city. They prepare their own DCR. But they send them to the government, which gives its approval to them. Only then the changes can come into effect.”
‘We will cancel the contract’
Fadnvis said, “Therefore, I said that it is a narrative that Adani will control… Adani will control. Why would they control? What is to be done will be done by the government. Adani Group will have to do what the government says. If they don’t do it, we will cancel the contract with them.”
