Pune: Kondhwa Police Files Complaint Against 20 to 25 Maratha Activists for Threatening and Assaulting OBC Leader Lakshman Hake

Pune:
An altercation between OBC community leader Lakshman Hake and Maratha activists in Kondhwa escalated on Monday evening, leading to police involvement. Kondhwa police have since registered a case against 20 to 25 people, including Maratha activist Mate, for detaining and threatening Lakshman Hake, accusing him of consuming alcohol. In the incident, Hake reportedly sustained a shoulder injury.
The incident occurred at Gokul Nagar in the Kondhwa area around 7:30 p.m. on Monday. According to a senior police official, Lakshman Hake is usually under police protection, but on this particular evening, he declined the service, stating that he was going to a friend’s house for dinner. As a result, Hake was without police protection when the confrontation occurred.
Reports suggest that Maratha activists had been tracking Hake’s movements since Monday morning. Later that evening, after having dinner at a friend’s house in Gokul Nagar, Hake was confronted by a group of Maratha activists who accused him of drinking alcohol. A video of the incident shows Hake struggling to respond to the accusations, which prompted the activists to call the police.
Kondhwa police responded to the call of Maratha activists and took Hake to the police station. The situation quickly escalated as media reporters, OBC activists, and Maratha activists gathered at the station, creating tension in the area. Hake was then questioned by police until midnight, during which he stated that he had not consumed alcohol.
Following the investigation, Hake was taken to Sassoon Hospital under police protection for further tests. There, a large crowd of Maratha and OBC activists gathered at the hospital. The police confirmed that a blood test of Hake was conducted, and they are currently awaiting the results to determine the next steps in the case.
