Rs 433 crore sanctioned to install 2,866 AI-CCTV cameras in Pune

Pune: The Pune Police will install AI-enabled CCTV cameras to monitor movements of history-sheeters and to curb a rising number of serious crimes.

CP Amitesh Kumar said, “New AI-enabled 2,866 CCTV cameras will be installed across the city. The State Government sanctioned Rs 433 crore for the purpose. The work of setting up the cameras will start soon.”

This is the first time that artificial intelligence (AI) technology is being used in CCTVs. As many as 2,866 AI-enabled CCTV cameras will be installed at a cost of Rs 433 crore in the city. Funds have been sanctioned by the government. A vigil will be conducted over criminal activities in the city. These cameras will help curb crime.

The face-recognition technology will make it easy for the control room to know about the activity of a criminal. The CCTV cameras are being installed in the city. Around 1,300 cameras were fixed in the city and suburbs, which will strengthen security in the city. The CCTV network will also be widened.

Criminals across the country will be watched

The 1,300 new already installed CCTVs in the city and suburbs will be embedded with the AI technology. The cameras will not only keep an eye on criminals in Pune but also those from across the country. Any absconding criminal spotted on the city roads could be nabbed with the help of the AI-based cameras. The cameras will be fixed at crowded places such as bus stands, railway stations, etc. A criminal under the disguise could also be recognised.
