Fadnavis should explain why crime graph is rising in Maharashtra: Supriya Sule
Pune: NCP (SP) Executive President and MP Supriya Sule criticised the State Home Department over the deteriorating law and order on Tuesday (October 8).
She said, “Law and order has collapsed in Pune and elsewhere in the State. We are proud of the Maharashtra Police. However, compromises are being made in the Secretariat. Hence, criminals are not scared of the police. State Home Minister Devendra Fadnavis should explain why the crime rate is increasing in the State.”
Sule was addressing the media after participating in an agitation staged by the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) against the rising crime in Pune and across the State. Sule said, “The accused in the Bopdev Ghat gang rape case have not been arrested a week after the incident.
“’Data speaks louder’ in Maharashtra and at the Centre indicate that the State’s crime graph is soaring. Is it not Devendra Fadnavis’s responsibility to address it? Why is crime going up? Are criminals not afraid of the police, their uniform? Fadnavis should answer these questions. The Income Tax Department and the Enforcement Directorate are used to harass opposition leaders, why are they not using these agencies to trace the accused in the Bopdev Ghat case?”
Commenting on the postponement of cooperative institutions’ elections, she said, “What was the need to postpone the elections? This means the government is frightened to hold the elections. The civic and zilla parishad elections are not held. Now, cooperative institutions’ elections have been deferred. The Yuva Sena of Aaditya Thackeray won the Mumbai University Senate elections. They are scared of the outcome of elections.”
Sule reacted to Sushma Andhare’s comment on the Hadapsar seat. She said, “Sushma Andhare was not present at the MVA meeting yesterday. I will not comment till the final list is published. I will not further cause any misunderstanding in the MVA. I am a responsible MP. I will call her up and seek details.”
Threats being issued in Baramati, Indapur
Sule alleged, “People were threatened during the Lok Sabha elections. This is democracy. It cannot be browbeaten by the ‘invisible power’. The Marathi people have self-respect. Politics is not run by being scared of Delhi or by threatening people. Pravin Mane, Appasaheb Jagdale and Bharat Shah are a part of my family. Mane was threatened by the BJP during the Lok Sabha poll. He was forced to campaign against me.”
Sule’s allegations
*Inflation, unemployment and corruption are the BJP government’s ‘gifts’ to the people
*’Politics has still not become a circus because I take it seriously’
*Raj Thackeray, Nitin Gadkari have rightly commented on the condition of the State’s economy
*I will comment on the Haryana and J&K poll outcomes only after getting the complete results
