Pune: After AI Technology and Rs 10 Lakh Award Announcement, Police Zero in on Repeat Offenders to Trace the Accused in Bopdev Ghat Gang Rape Case
Pune:
The police have intensified their investigation to find out the accused in the Bopdev Ghat gang rape case. Recently, police have started an investigation of the recidivist accused, who have been booked in the case of robbing citizens and molesting a young woman who comes for a walk at Bopdev Ghat.
At midnight on October 3, a few accused collectively raped a college girl who had gone to Bopdev Ghat along with her friend. In this case, the police have formed 25 teams to trace the absconding accused. Further, police also collected the information of three thousand mobile users who passed through Bopdev Ghat in the last fifteen days and started the technical analysis of this information.
But, due to the weak mobile communication system in the Bopdev Ghat area, the technical investigation is not yielding the expected results. Therefore, the police have collected and started examining CCTV footage from 70 to 80 km from the spot, suspecting the accused had fled via the Saswad route.
Even after five days have passed following the incident, police do not get any significant leads in this case. Therefore, the police have started the investigation of the people against whom cases of robbing as well as molesting young women who come for a walk in the Bopdev Ghat area have been registered.
Further, the police have reactivated the network of informants in Pune city and rural areas, as no important information was found in the technical investigation. The police also stated that the help of village police Patil and sarpanch will be taken to get information about the accused. AI (artificial intelligence) technology is also being used to trace the accused.
Meanwhile, the police have appealed to people to contact the Pune Police Control Room if they have information about the accused. For this, they also announced a cash reward of Rs 10 lakh for anyone who provides information about the accused. Police have seized blood samples, bamboo, and other materials from the spot, and they have been sent to the forensic laboratory for examination.
