Pune: A legal notice has been sent to Chief Minister Eknath Shinde and DyCM Ajit Pawar over the Mukhyamantri Mazi Ladki Bahin Yojana as it has allegedly been launched eyeing the upcoming State Legislative Assembly elections and is purportedly politically motivated.

Journalist, writer and political analyst Vinay Hardikar has sent the notice through his legal counsel Adv Asim Sarode.

The notice has sought an explanation how Rs 1,500 financial aid per month per head to poor women would improve their financial condition, health and nutrition.

The annual spending on the scheme will be Rs 46,000 crore, for which the State Government has taken a loan of Rs 3,000 crore from the Reserve Bank of India (RBI). This has put a huge burden on the state exchequer. The government is trying to hide this fact, said Adv Sarode, in the notice.

Had the State Government launched the scheme for women after the State elections for the next five years, no doubt would have arisen, stated the legal notice.

The claim made by the government that the scheme would generate employment is empty and baseless, alleged the notice. The notice has asked the government to reply within five days.

Besides the Chief Minister, the notice has also been sent to the State Chief Secretary and the State Women and Child Ministry. Therefore, it remains to be seen what reply the government would give to the legal notice.
