Pune: Illegal Activities in Full Swing in City Amid Election Code of Conduct; Police Launch Raids, Seize Lakhs in Cash and Goods

A few days ago, the Commissioner of Police, Amitesh Kumar, informed that all illegal activities in the city are closed. However, as soon as the code of conduct came into effect, the police started taking action against illegal businesses in the city. From it, it was seen that hand-baked liquor, illegal matka, and gambling dens are running rampant everywhere in the city.

Every day, the police seem to be raiding many illegal liquor shops and gambling dens. On Friday, the city police force raided four places and arrested several people, including Matka king Nandu Naik, and seized cash and gambling materials worth lakhs of rupees from them.

On Friday morning, the Khadak Police raided a room on the first floor above Raunak Bar and Resto in Shukrawar Peth. At that time, the police arrested four people who were gambling and playing matka for their financial gain. In this action, police seized gambling materials worth Rs 3 thousand 105 from them.

The arrested individuals in this case have been identified as Charan Bharat Devghe (age 36, a resident of Waghjai Nagar, Katraj), Karan Jitendra Modi (age 30), Kiran Vitthal Salunkhe (both residents of Balaji Nagar), and Matka King Nandkumar Baburao Naik (a resident of Shukrawar Peth).

In another significant action, police raided a gambling den near the Kumar Sadar Building in Rasta Peth on Friday afternoon. In this regard, a case was registered against the four who were playing matka called Kalyan Open, and Rs 5,000 cash and gambling equipment were seized from them. In this regard, police arrested four individuals, namely, Sandeep Laxman Chavan (age 34, a resident of Kasba Peth), Nazir Saeed Ali Sheikh (age 37, a resident of Mangalwar Peth), Rupesh Rajendra Naik (age 40, a resident of Somwar Peth), and Satish Atmaram Jadhav (age 50, a resident of Kasara House).

Further, the Bundgarden police raided a matka gambling establishment on the footpath in front of Sassoon Hospital and arrested Gajendra Basavanappa Yaganti (age 50, a resident of Gaikwad Wada, Vadgaon Sheri). Yaganti was arrested for accepting money from people for the benefit of the owner of this gambling business, Rahul Shelke, and gambling with them. Police seized a cash of Rs 1380 and the gambling equipment from him.

On Friday night, the police raided Nandu Naik’s gambling den on the terrace of the Janseva building in Shukrawar Peth and detained 60 people. Police also seized Rs 1 lakh cash from there.
