Mumbai: Shiv Sena (UBT) MP Arvind Sawant on Saturday (November 2) apologised for his sexist remarks against Shiv Sena (BT) candidate from Mumbadevi Shaina NC. He clarified that he did not intend to hurt anybody’s sentiments.

Sawant said, “I apologise to those who may have been offended by my remarks, which were twisted by some people. I never hurt any woman in my political career of 55 years.

“But some people tweaked my statement for political gains. I did not intend to hurt anyone and did not name anyone.”

The Shiv Sena MP invited a row after his reportedly objectionable remark ‘imported maal’, which went viral on social media. It was allegedly directed towards Shaina NC who quit the BJP and joined the Shiv Sena (BT). She is contesting the Assembly poll from the Mumbadevi segment.

She lodged a police complaint against the Shiv Sena (UBT) MP. She alleged that Sawant’s remarks indicated his and his party’s mindset. Reacting to her complaint, Sawant said that she was instigated to do so and the ruling combine was spreading a fake narrative. Arvind Sawant said, “A rape case has been registered against a minister of the party she belongs to. One of her party leaders assaulted a woman and indulged in her character assassination.”
