Pune: The contest in the Baramati Assembly seat is prestigious as NCP (SP) candidate Yugendra Pawar is taking on his uncle NCP (AP) President and DyCM Ajit Pawar.

On Monday (November 18), the contest had a twist as a flying squad searched Shrinivas Pawar (Yugendra Pawar’s father)-owned automobile showroom Sharayu Motors in Baramati.

Yugendra Pawar’s opponents alleged that he was distributing money. Later, the searches were conducted at Shrinivas Pawar’s automobile showroom. However, nothing incriminating was found there. This was revealed by officials.

Reacting to the episode, Shrinivas Pawar said, “Our brother Ajit Pawar is with the BJP. He is learning such tactics from them. We expect a win in Baramati. Sharad Pawar is the supreme leader in Baramati. People will respond positively to his appeal. A squad visited our showroom after receiving a complaint. They found nothing incriminating. So, they went back. Some people in power are doing such things.”

Yugendra Pawar said, “The police squad came at 10 pm on Monday. They searched the Sharayu Motors showroom. We are law-abiding citizens. They found nothing there. We will cooperate with the police. When I asked the officials concerned about the reason and the name of the complainant, they did not reply. It is not appropriate to speak about this till we know on whose instructions the police were acting. This has happened for the first time. We are ready to face any inquiry.”

SDO Vaibhav Navadkar said, “The searches were conducted at Sharaya Motors, located on the outskirts of Baramati, after an unidentified person lodged a complaint that money was being distributed at Sharayu Toyota. Later, we searched the showroom but found that there was no substance in the complaint.”
