Amit Shah to mediate in Chief Ministership issue, to visit Mumbai on Tuesday evening
Mumbai: The Maha Yuti got a landslide victory in the State Assembly elections 2024. However, the ruling alliance is facing hurdles over naming the Chief Minister. Senior leaders from the Maha Yuti have been repeatedly saying that there have been no differences over the post. The three top leaders in the State would discuss and resolve the problem.
However, the BJP and the Shiv Sena are squabbling. Pressure is growing from the Shiv Sena (BT) MLAs to name Eknath Shinde as the new Chief Minister. The BJP and the NCP (AP) are insisting on Devendra Fadnavis’s name.
Growing pressure over naming Shinde as the CM
The Maha Yuti has still not been able to decide as to who would be the Chief Minister even after three days of the Assembly poll results. The alliance has got an unprecedented majority but its leaders have not been able to arrive at a consensus over the Chief Ministership.
Sources said that Devendra Fadnavis went to Delhi late on Monday night and held discussions with Amit Shah. It is also said that Amit Shah could arrive in Mumbai to announce the new Chief Minister’s name. Political circles were abuzz with discussions that Devendra Fadnavis would be named the next Chief Minister. The BJP tally has now gone up to 137 after five independents supported the party.
It is said that the 15th State Assembly polls were fought under the leadership of Eknath Shinde. Moreover, the Maha Yuti could get such a huge mandate due to the Ladki Bahin Yojana. Therefore, Eknath Shinde is the legitimate claimant to the post. His supporters are putting pressure while many women performed pujas to pray for Eknath Shinde’s continuation as the CM.
No formula for CM’s post in Maha Yuti
The RSS is also insisting on Devendra Fadnavis’s name for the Chief Ministership. There is a likelihood that Fadnavis would be named the next CM. However, Eknath Shinde has been insisting that no such formula was decided to name the CM from the single largest party. Therefore, he is the legitimate claimant to the post. He also said that the Maha Yuti emerged victorious under his leadership. Therefore, he should get at least 2.5 years more as the Chief Minister.
Dispute reached Delhi
The dispute over who should become the CM has reached Delhi. It remains to be seen how the party leadership solves the issue. The BJP does not want to disappoint Eknath Shinde. On the other hand, Devendra Fadnavis has been instrumental in winning over 100 seats for the party since 2014. The BJP leadership knows his charisma. Therefore, it remains to be seen how the party leadership sorts out this. Political pundits said that Fadnavis would most likely be named the CM.
