Pune: Assaulted Youth, Mistaken as Petrol Thief, Died While Receiving Treatment; Police Arrest Three, One Absconding

In a shocking incident, a 20-year-old, who had been receiving treatment in the private hospital after he was assaulted by people from the misconception of petrol thief, died on Sunday. In this regard, the police had earlier registered a case of attempted murder and arrested three people. Now, another section of murder has been added into it.

The deceased individual has been identified as Samarth Netaji Bhagat (age 20, a resident of Venkateswara Society, Narhe). The police have arrested Gaurav Sanjay Kute (24), Ajinkya Chandrakant Gandle (20), and Rahul Somnath Lohar (age 23, a resident of Manaji Nagar, Narhe). Former Deputy Sarpanch, Sushant Suresh Kute, is currently at large, and police are searching for him.

In this regard, Samarth’s father, Netaji Bhagat, lodged a complaint at Sinhagad Road Police Station. This incident took place on November 25 around 6 a.m.

As per the police information, Samarth was working at a private company in Deccan. On November 25, he had to go to the office early in the morning. However, as his vehicle ran out of petrol, he was taking some petrol from the adjacent vehicle. At that time, the accused, mistaking him for a petrol thief, beat him up with hands, sticks, and a bicycle chain. Samarth was seriously injured in this attack.

After that, he was immediately admitted into the hospital for treatment, where he was receiving treatment for five days. However, his condition deteriorated while he was undergoing treatment, and he died on Sunday. The police have registered a case of murder against the accused, and Police Inspector (Crime) Uttam Bhajnavale is investigating further in this case.
