Mumbai: The Maha Yuti formed the new government under the leadership of Devendra Fadnavis. Portfolio distribution and cabinet expansion are being discussed. It was learnt that the State Cabinet expansion would be done on December 14 ahead of the winter session of the State Legislative Assembly.

According to sources, the three alliance partners fixed the portfolio distribution formula. A Hindi news channel reported this quoting the sources.

The State Legislature session will begin on December 16. Maha Yuti leaders said that the cabinet expansion would happen before the session. The sources said that the expansion could be done on December 14.

Some big leaders would not be included in the State Cabinet headed by Devendra Fadnavis. Some ministers’ performance was not up to the mark in the last cabinet. They gave an opportunity to the opposition to criticise the government, said the sources.

Will there be new faces?

The sources confirmed that the three alliance partners were unanimous on dropping some ministers from the previous cabinet. Some fresh MLAs with a good image could be given an opportunity. Senior leaders were in favour of dropping controversial ministers, said the sources.

The likely formula

The main alliance partners are the BJP, the Shiv Sena (BT) and the NCP (AP) in the Maha Yuti. The sources said, “The State Cabinet will have 43 ministers, including the CM. As many as 15 BJP, 10 Shiv Sena (BT) and nine NCP (AP) leaders will take the oath of office.”
