District Sessions Judge, three others booked under Prevention of Corruption Act in a bail case; Rs 5 lakh bribe sought

Satara: Four persons, including a district sessions judge, have been booked under the Prevention of Corruption Act for seeking a Rs 5 lakh bribe to grant a bail application.
A complaint was lodged against District Sessions Judge Dhananjay Nikam and three others for trying to get the bribe to help in a bail application and to get bail. An offence has been registered at the Satara City Police Station.
According to the police, a Pune-based woman lodged the complaint in this regard. The accused have been identified as Anand Mohan Kharat, resident of Dahiwadi, Maan taluka, Kishor Sambhaji Kharat, resident of Mumbai, an unidentified person and District Sessions Judge Dhananjay Nikam. The incident took place on December 3, 9 and 10.
The police said that the complainant’s father filed the bail application in the District Session Court. Anand Kharat and Kishor Kharat made a common cause with District Sessions Judge Nikam. They demanded Rs 5 lakh to help in the bail application and to help get bail. They discussed bail in a pre-determined MSEB code.
Anand Kharat, Kishor Kharat and an unidentified person were ready to accept Rs 10 lakh from the complainant on December 10. They asked her to hand over the money to them in a car. Thus, they sought the bribe. Therefore, the complaint was lodged.
An offence has been registered at the Satara City Police Station and further investigation is underway.
