Pune: NCP (SP) launches ‘EVM Hatao, Desh Bachao’ stir, sets machine replica on fire

Pune: The NCP (SP) on Thursday (November 12) launched an agitation against the use of EVMs in elections. Party workers burnt a replica of EVM in front of Tehsildar office in Indapur and later trampled it. Slogans such as ‘EVM Hatao, Desh Bachao’ were raised.
A petition addressed to President Draupadi Murmu was submitted demanding holding of elections using ballot papers only. Protestors demanded that the President should direct the Election Commission of India (ECI) in this regard.
NCP (AP) Taluka President Adv Tejsinh Patil, Maharudra Patil, Adv Rahul Makhare, Amol Bhise, Sagar Misal, Akshay Kokate, Shyam Shinde, Vikas Khillare, Adv Ashutosh Bhosale and other office-bearers were present.
The petition stated: “EVMs were used in the recently-held State Assembly elections. The people of Maharashtra have doubts about the poll results and EVMs. Discussions can be heard in every public place in cities and villages about the issue. Democracy is in danger.
“It is just and necessary to hold elections in an open and impartial atmosphere. Therefore, the people have demanded that elections should be held, henceforth, using ballot papers. If this demand is not fulfilled, people will lose their trust in the election process. There is a possibility of putting Indian Democracy at big risk. Henceforth, ballot papers should be used in all elections. You should issue a directive to the ECI in this connection.”
