Citizens Demanded Immediate Action from Alandi Municipal Council After 51 People Were Bitten by Rabid Dogs in Alandi
Pune:
The issue of citizens being attacked by rabid stray dogs in Alandi is becoming very serious. In a concerning revelation, Alandi Medical Superintendent Dr. Urmila Shinde informed that a total of 51 people, from children to senior citizens, were treated in Alandi Municipal Council limits so far after being bitten by stray rabid dogs.
In the last two days, two children, eight women, and 31 men were injured after being bitten by a rabid dog while passing through the filthy Bhagirathi Nala area of Alandi. Kailash Kendre, Chief Officer of Alandi Municipal Council, informed that after Alandi Municipal Council administration was informed about it, the dog was confined in an iron cage vehicle of the Pimpri-Chinchwad Veterinary Department and sent for further treatment.
In the past two days, a total of 51 people were injured in dog bite incidents that took place at various places in Alandi city. This has sparked discontent among citizens and devotees in the area regarding stray dogs. In this regard, various charitable organisations, as well as the general secretary of the Alandi city BJP organisation, Bhagwat Katkar, have demanded that the stray dogs roaming in large numbers on public roads and places be controlled to ensure the safety of devotees and citizens.
A large number of stray dogs roam around public open spaces, roads, Indrayani river ghats, Markal road, Chawadi Chowk, Vadgaon Road, Bhairavnath Chowk, etc. in Alandi. Due to this, stray dogs run over citizens day and night. Stray dogs roaming around Vadgaon Chowk, Chawadi Chowk, temple premises, Markal Road, and in school premises are causing inconvenience and fear among school students, senior citizens, passengers, pilgrims, and devotees. Many have been injured due to this in the past.
Meanwhile, citizens have demanded that, to take care of the health of devotees and citizens, the Alandi Municipal Council needs to give anti-rabies injections to stray dogs in the city. To avoid inconvenience to citizens and traffic, it is being demanded that stray dogs be controlled by owners.
The citizens demanded that the municipal council should issue instructions to the dog owners to ensure that dogs have proper belts around their necks and they do not cause any trouble to citizens and neighbours. They also demanded that action should be taken against the concerned dog owner if it is found that private dogs are not registered in the records.
Citizens have warned that if immediate measures are not taken by prioritising the safety of devotees, citizens, and school children, a protest will be launched for this demand through legal means.
