Pune: First transgender mass marriage function in Maharashtra takes place in Pimpri-Chinchwad

Pune/Pimpri: The first mass marriage programme of transgenders is taking place in Pimpri-Chinchwad on Tuesday (January 28). With this, yet another progressive social initiative is happening in the twin towns. NGO Nari the Woman President Asif Shaikh, Vice-President Archana Mengde, Bhai Vishal Jadhav and Journalist Arun (Nana) Kamble have organised the mass marriage.
Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh has been focusing on an all-round development of the city. Moreover, he has gone beyond that and has been active in making the city embrace progressive social and cultural practices and to ensure justice to neglected sections in society. The transgenders’ mass marriage is a visible effect of his endeavours.
The mass wedding of five transgender couples will take place at the Balaji Lawns, Kalewadi at 7 pm on Tuesday (January 28). Many people have extended their helping hand to the initiative. Besides the PCMC, Chinchwad MLA Shankar Jagtap, noted Industrialist Santosh Barne, Alkesh Tripathi, former Corporator Supriya Chandgude and Mallisheth Kadarapurkar.
The ‘Sakharpuda’ ceremony would take place at 11 am while the ‘Haldi’ ceremony would happen at 2 pm. The mass marriage would be held at 7 pm in the presence of hundreds of citizens and dignitaries. MP Shrirang Barne, Municipal Commissioner Shekhar Singh, District Collector Jitendra Dudi, State ADGP Krishna Prakash, Commissioner of Police Vinoy Kumar Choubey, MLA Shankar Jagtap, MLA Mahesh Landge, MLA Anna Bansode, MLC Uma Khapre, MLC Amit Gorkhe will be present.
