Pune: Enraged over friend’s wife’s refusal to allow drinking alcohol, two friends set vehicles on fire in Kothrud

Pune: Many accidents and untoward incidents took place on Dhulivandan, the day after Holi, when many people consume liquor and eat meat to celebrate the occasion. But two friends were so upset over their friend’s absence at a liquor party that they set afire his two-wheeler, which led to burning of other vehicles. Their friend’s wife did not allow him to join the party.
The incident took place at Rautwadi-Hanuman Nagar in Kothrud. The accused were identified as Kanahi Thakur (28) and Hiralal Sharma (24), both residents of Kothrud and carpenters by profession. Their friend Shibukumar Thakur refused to join them as his wife did not approve of it. The accused went to his residence in Kothrud, where he shut the door on them. Upset with his refusal, they torched his two-wheeler. The fire spread rapidly and burnt some nearby vehicles. The Kothrud Police registered an offence and arrested the duo after Shibukumar Thakur lodged a complaint.
