Pune-based industrialist receives death threat from Pakistan, Rs 5 crore ransom sought

Pune: A city-based industrialist dealing in the aviation sector has purportedly received a death threat through WhatsApp calls and voice notes. The caller reportedly sought Rs 5 crore ransom. An offence has been registered against an unidentified person at the Koregaon Park Police Station.
The complainant is a director of a company and has offices in Dubai and England. He got a phone call from Pakistan on his WhatsApp account on February 25 night. Then he received voice notes in quick succession. The caller sought Rs 5 crore ransom for a helicopter deal.
A voice note threatened and said, “I know all your dealings well.” Later, he got phone calls and voice notes from other numbers on February 28 and March 16.
The caller warned that the complainant should give money within three days, failing which ‘he could be harmed’. The police took serious note of the matter and were checking if the calls and messages really originated from Pakistan or a proxy server was used. Cyber evidence was collected and handed over to the Cyber Crime Cell in this connection.
