Manoj Jarange Patil Hints at Accepting Chhagan Bhujbal’s Challenge, May Announce Decision to Contest Assembly Elections on August 29
Pune: Manoj Jarange Patil, a key figure in the Maratha reservation movement, has hinted at accepting a challenge from senior NCP leader Chhagan Bhujbal to contest the upcoming Maharashtra Vidhan Sabha elections. According to sources close to Jarange Patil, he is likely to make a formal announcement regarding his decision on August 29. Patil has previously warned that if the Maratha community is not granted reservation under the OBC category, he would field 288 candidates in the assembly elections. Bhujbal responded to this by challenging Patil to field the candidates and win at least eight seats.
Recently, Patil’s health deteriorated while addressing a peace rally in Pune, leading to his admission to Sahyadri Hospital for treatment due to dehydration and anemia. After receiving care, he was discharged and left for Ahmednagar. Before his departure, Patil spoke with reporters, stating, “I have been advised to rest, but I will first complete my tour. I do not give much attention to Bhujbal and Anil Bonde. We will contest on 288 assembly seats in the state, electing Maratha candidates on reserved seats and candidates from other castes on the remaining seats. The decision to contest the election or not will be made on August 29.”
Bhujbal’s challenge has sparked considerable discussion within political circles. Jarange Patil, known for his unwavering stance on the Maratha reservation issue, has garnered substantial support from the community. His possible entry into electoral politics is expected to create waves in Maharashtra’s political landscape, particularly as the Maratha reservation remains a highly sensitive and contentious issue.
Jarange Patil’s potential candidacy could have a significant impact on the upcoming assembly elections, especially in constituencies with a strong Maratha presence. His consistent advocacy for Maratha rights has solidified his reputation as a determined leader, and his decision on August 29 is eagerly awaited by many.
