Pune: Brazen Sandalwood Tree Theft from Army Officer’s Bungalow in Pune, Search for Absconded Accused Underway

A shocking incident of cutting down three sandalwood trees from the bungalow of a senior army officer has come to light. In this regard, the police are searching for the absconded sandalwood thieves.
Pandiyaraj Murugan (age 30) has lodged a complaint regarding it at Bundgarden police station. Accordingly, police registered a case against sandalwood thieves.
As per the police information, there are a large number of spacious bungalows of senior army officers on Dr. Rajendra Singh Marg near Poona Club in the army area. The army officers have gone out of town for Christmas. Two days ago, thieves entered the bungalow premises of Murugan at midnight. The thieves then cut down three sandalwood trees from the bungalow’s premises and took them away.
“After noticing that the sandalwood trees were stolen, a complaint was filed by an army officer, Murugan, with the police,” informed Assistant Police Inspector Dr. Arifa Mujawar.
After that, the police visited the bungalow and inspected the site. As the bungalow did not have CCTV cameras, the footage of the thieves was not available. However, the police are searching for the absconded thieves, with the assistant police inspector Mujawar leading the search.
There has been an increase in the incidents of sandalwood theft in the city for the last few months. There have been incidents of cutting sandalwood trees from the premises of government and educational institutions, bungalows, and societies. Notably, so far, 30 cases of cutting sandalwood trees have been registered during the year at various police stations of the city.
