Pune: In a shocking incident, a construction businessman in Mulshi, Pimpri Chinchwad, was arrested after firing his licensed gun in a restaurant to intimidate people. The incident occurred on Friday night, August 2, at Hotel Image in the Mahalunge area.

The accused, Balasaheb Vyankatrao Darade, 41, a resident of Susgaon in Mulshi, has been charged under Sections 110 and 125 of the Indian Penal Code and various sections of the Indian Arms Act. The police acted swiftly, arresting Darade and seizing his gun.

Inspector Kanhaiya Thorat of the Hinjewadi police station provided details of the incident. “Balasaheb Darade entered the air-conditioned section on the first floor of Hotel Image and fired a shot at the wall. His intention was to create terror among the people. The sudden gunshot caused panic, with several people fleeing their tables and running for safety,” said Thorat.

Further investigations revealed that Darade possesses a license to carry a gun. Despite this, his actions have raised serious questions about the misuse of firearms. The police have confiscated his gun and are conducting a thorough investigation into the matter.

Inspector Thorat added, “We have arrested Balasaheb Darade and produced him before the court. He has been remanded in custody for one day. We are looking into all aspects of the case, including his motive for firing the gun and whether he has a history of such behaviour.”

This incident is not isolated in the Mulshi area, which has seen a rise in similar cases involving individuals carrying weapons, both licensed and unlicensed. The police have been conducting regular operations against unlicensed arms holders and have taken action against those who misuse weapons to intimidate or harm others.
