Pune: Deadlock likely in Maha Vikas Aghadi over Parvati seat
Pune: There is a likelihood of a deadlock in the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) over the Parvati Assembly constituency. The Congress and the NCP (SP) have staked the claim over the seat.
On the other hand, the NCP (SP) said that they would leave their claim on Parvati for the Shiv Sena (UBT), provided the latter gives up its claim on the Hadapsar and Khadakwasla constituencies. This has complicated the seat-sharing talks within the MVA.
The NCP (SP) has staked its claim on the Vadgaon Sheri, Khadakwasla, Hadapsar and Parvati segments. PMC Standing Committee former Chairperson Ashwini Kadam and her husband Nitin Kadam are the aspirants from Parvati. However, former Deputy Mayor and Congress leader Aba Bagul has insisted that he wants to contest from the Parvati seat. He has submitted a petition, in this regard, to the senior leadership. He has been preparing for the fight. This has resulted in a tug of war within the MVA.
The Congress has interviewed aspirants from Paravati and retained its claim on the seat. The Shiv Sena (UBT) is not interested in contesting from the constituency. The party is strong in Kothrud and Hadapsar, where it has former MLAs. It is said that the Kothrud seat will most probably be retained by the Shiv Sena (UBT). However, the party wants Hadapsar too, which has led to a clash of interest with the NCP (SP). Therefore, the latter is ready to leave its claim on Hadapsar for Parvati.
Bala Oswal is a strong contender from the Shiv Sena (UBT) in Parvati. However, the Congress may oppose leaving the seat for the Shiv Sena (UBT). This has complicated the matter.
