Pune: Security provided to leaders withdrawn immediately after elections
Pune: Police protection was extended to office-bearers and candidates of major parties during the State Legislative Assembly elections. An order has now been issued by DCP (Special Branch) Milind Mohite to withdraw protection of 30 leaders.
The police have the responsibility to maintain law and order during the election period. Preventive measures are taken such as externing and detaining history-sheeters during this period to prevent serious crimes and social disturbance.
Moreover, security cover is given to candidates and office-bearers of major parties. The Pune Police provided such cover for political leaders, some businessmen and persons from other walks of life, which was withdrawn on Monday (November 25).
These leaders included former minister Harshavardhan Patil, Ramesh Bagwe, Chandrakant Mokate, Ravindra Dhangekar, Sunil Tingre, MLAs Bapusaheb Pathare, Hemant Rasane and Dnyaneshwar Katke, Shivam Andekar, Akshay Dhavare, Datta Bahirat, Ashwini Kadam, Sachin Dodke, Prashant Jagtap, Manish Anand, Kishor Shinde, Mayuresh Wanjale, Aba Bagul, Kamal Vyavahare, Sainath Babar, Bharati Chavan, Sudhakar Shirsat, Kishor Shirsat, Mrunal Dhole-Patil, Nilesh Girme, Vidya Aware, Shrikant Kulkarni, Minal Shinde and Mangesh Sasane.
