Pune: Bomb hoax at Bharati Vidyapeeth Medical College
Pune: The Bharati Vidyapeeth Medical College received a threatening email on Wednesday (November 6). The email stated that the medical college and the hostel could be exploded with a bomb blast.
The police took the email seriously and their Bomb Detection and Disposal Squad (BDDS) scanned the entire premises of the college. However, they did not find any suspicious object.
Medical College Principal Dr Mandar Karmarkar, a resident of Parvati Darshan, lodged a complaint against an unidentified email sender at the Bharati Vidyapeeth Police Station.
According to the police, a person sent the email twice to the Medical College Principal’s email ID. It threatened to explode a bomb on the premises of the college and the hostel. Dr Mandar Karmarkar immediately approached the police.
Later, the Bharati Vidyapeeth Police checked the college and the hostel premises under the guidance of Senior PI Dashrath Patil. The BDDS was also summoned. Students appeared to have panicked due to this.
A technical analysis revealed that the threatening email originated from abroad. There was no clear threat in the email. The message was unclear as to what the sender wanted to say.
However, the email put the police on their toes. API Swapnil Patil was investigating the matter.
