Badlapur school trustees receive a jolt, court rejects anticipatory bail
Mumbai: The Bombay High Court (HC) has rejected the anticipatory bail application of the trustees of the primary school in Badlapur, where two minor girls were sexually abused.
The main accused, Akashay Shinde, was killed in an encounter with the police recently. The accused trustees approached the HC to secure anticipatory bail, which was rejected during a hearing conducted on Tuesday (October 1).
The two minor girls were sexually assaulted at the primary school in Badlapur in August this year. The chairman and trustees of the school applied for anticipatory bail but it was junked.
An offence was registered against the trustees under the POCSO Act. However, they were not arrested. They are trying to make use of legal remedies available in this regard.
HC asks questions on the encounter
Allegations and counter-allegations have been levelled after the police killed accused Akshay Shinde in an encounter. The HC admitted a suo motu petition on the encounter, which is also being heard before the HC bench.
The court sought a reply from the prosecution as to why the bullet was fired in his head. It asked if that was the standard practice. The bench asked, “Why were not they fired at his legs? If a round of three bullets was fired, then where are the two other bullets? Could not four policemen control one person? Was the bullet fired at the cop piercing his thigh or just brushed it?”
