Pune: Man Files False Complaint Against Senior Police Inspector; FIR Registered Against Lalit Sasane

Pune : A case has been registered against Lalit Satyavan Sasane, a resident of New Timber Market, Bhawani Peth, for allegedly making a false complaint against Senior Police Inspector Shashikant Chavan, accusing him of stalking and conducting surveillance on his shop.
According to the FIR filed by Inspector Chavan at the Khadak Police Station, on Sunday, June 8, around 3:25 PM, Sasane falsely informed the police emergency helpline (Dial 112) that two men were following him and could attack him. He claimed one of them was Inspector Chavan, who was allegedly seen driving past his shop in an Ola cab and then stopping a short distance away to observe the premises.
A History of Criminal Offences
Sasane has a criminal record with five registered cases including extortion, attempt to murder, dacoity, and forgery. These cases are spread across Khadki, Chatushringi, and Khadak police stations. He also faces an extortion case filed by one Prasad Shelar, currently under investigation by Crime Inspector Manojkumar Londhe.
Attempt to Malign Police Image
Police say Sasane made the false complaint with the intention of defaming Inspector Chavan and exerting pressure on the department. He reportedly sent multiple written complaints to senior officers including Commissioner Amitesh Kumar, using fake signatures and letterheads of an organization, falsely portraying public support.
On the day of the incident, police responded to Sasane’s emergency call, but he was not present at the scene. When contacted, he claimed he was on his way to the hospital and would later file a formal complaint — which he never did.
Inspector Responds
Inspector Chavan, in his complaint, stated that he was at his residence in Baner–Pashan Link Road on his weekly off at the time of the alleged incident. He emphasized that Sasane’s call to Dial 112 was completely fabricated and intended to malign the image of the police.
The case is currently being investigated by Inspector Manojkumar Londhe (Crime) of the Khadak Police Station
