Pune: Nasirabad Cantonment Board CEO Dr. Nitish Gupta Launches ‘JAN SAMWAD – Chawani Prashasan Aapke Dwar’
A First-of-its-Kind Initiative Among 61 Cantonments, Bringing Administration to the Doorstep
Pune: Nasirabad Cantonment Board, under the Directorate General Defence Estates (DGDE) and the Principal Directorate Defence Estates (PDDE), Southern Command, has introduced a pioneering initiative titled “JAN SAMWAD – Chawani Prashasan Aapke Dwar.” This initiative aims to address the issues faced by residents and bridge the gap between civilians and the Cantonment administration. It is the first program of its kind among the 61 cantonments under the Ministry of Defence, with Nasirabad leading the way.
The inaugural event, held in Ward No. 6, witnessed active participation from 800 to 1,000 residents, including senior citizens, women, and youth. Instead of focusing on individual grievances, collective issues were discussed, and solutions were proposed with a committed timeline for resolution. Residents highly appreciated the timelines provided by CEO Dr. Nitish Gupta.
Key concerns raised during the session included drainage, pavements, roads, streetlights, pipelines, contaminated water, encroachments, urinals, and public toilets. While Dr. Gupta directed the cantonment staff to resolve minor issues on the spot, he also prepared a one-year action plan for major repair works.
In the absence of elections within the Cantonment, Dr. Gupta established an informal committee of social activists in each ward, comprising members of the public to monitor the progress of developmental works.
Following the JAN SAMWAD session, Dr. Gupta personally visited every corner of Ward No. 6 along with cantonment employees to assess the situation firsthand. This on-site inspection enabled him to witness the issues personally, and he immediately issued orders, directing the relevant staff to prepare a comprehensive roadmap for each ward, ensuring that residents are informed about the timelines for addressing their grievances.
The initiative has been widely praised by the public, and Dr. Gupta assured residents that similar JAN SAMWAD programs would be conducted across all wards of the cantonment. He encouraged residents to take full advantage of this direct channel to voice their concerns and seek resolutions.
Additionally, Dr. Gupta announced the launch of a ward-wise list of all sanitation workers and electricians responsible for streetlights. This list will be displayed in each ward, making it easier for residents to approach the relevant personnel for minor grievances.
Dr. Gupta also informed that Nasirabad Cantonment consists of eight wards with a total civilian population of approximately 60,000 to 70,000. A date-wise schedule of JAN SAMWAD events has already been announced for each ward, ensuring that all residents have the opportunity to participate in this initiative. Till now already four events has been conducted in various wards. He assured that all eight events would be completed by October 2nd, to mark the birth anniversary of Mahatma Gandhi and further promote the ‘Swachhta Hi Seva’ campaign.
