Pune: Shocker from Sassoon Hospital ! Doctors leave destitute patients at remote place
Pune: In yet another malpractice, it was learnt that doctors from the Sassoon General Hospital were leaving destitute patients at remote places. A case has been registered against the doctor concerned at the Yerwada Police Station.
Social workers Dadasaheb and Ritesh Gaikwad laid a trap and exposed the inhuman practice.
Social worker suspects foul play
A patient admitted by Dadasaheb disappeared from the premises of the Sassoon Hospital. He suspected foul play. Hence, he set a trap, along with Ritesh. They admitted a patient to the hospital. Ritesh was waiting outside the hospital in the wee hours. A doctor identified as Adi came along with the patient, took the auto-rickshaw and left the patient at an isolated place. They went in a car with a hospital staffer.
Later, the complainant approached the police.
Ritesh said, “We look after the destitute in our Ashram through the Rugna Adhar Foundation. We came to know that doctors from the Sassoon Hospital were leaving destitute patients at remote places without treating them. We were watching their activities for the past couple of months.
“I was waiting outside the hospital when Dr Adi came there and was searching for a particular auto-rickshaw driver. He told Ritesh that it was a big hassle to look after and treat a destitute. Therefore, they left them at a remote location, for which they hired a particular auto-rickshaw driver, whom they pay Rs 600 for each trip.”
Congress MLA Ravindra Dhangekar and Shiv Sena leader Sushma Andhare expressed anger over such practice.
